He was arrested and booked into the Fulton County Jail after allegedly breaking into a property he claimed thought was abandoned. He was later released after paying a bond of $11,000.

Khalid Kamau was born on October 5, 1976, in Georgia, United States, to Steve Kamau (father) and Elsie Kamau (mother). He aslo has a brother named Michael Kamau. While Steve Kamau, his father, served as an account for the City of Atlanta, his mother, Elsie Kamau, managed Grady's Bankhead clinic. 

Khalid Kamau started his primary education at Tri-Cities High School before going on to further his studies at Ithaca College in New York and John Marshall Law School in Atlanta.

Khalid Kamau's commitment to public service and passion for both social justice and grassroots organizing efforts led to him taking a political career path. 

Representing the Democratic Socialists of America, Khalid Kamau won the general election and emerged as the Mayor of South Fulton. The victory saw him receive the greatest percentage of votes cast for any candidate competing for any position in South Fulton. He also won twice as many votes as the candidate who finished behind him as runner-up. 

Since becoming the Mayor of South Fulton, Khalid Kamau has worked for non-profit organizations, showed vocal support for the rights of marginalized communities, and has created initiatives to create job opportunities and attract business within his city.

On July 8, 2023, Khalid Kamau was arrested and charged with criminal trespass and burglary after breaking into a property he claimed he thought was abandoned. He was taken to the Faulton County Jail after his arrest and was later released on a bond of $11,000.
