Early Life

Thato Kelvin Ledwaba, popularly known as Kelvin Momo, was born in 1994 in Diepkloof, Soweto, South Africa. He developed a strong passion for music at an early age after being influenced by his father's love for jazz, and by the time he was 7 years old, he was already performing with music instruments. 



Career

Kelvin Momo is popularly known as the pioneer of Private School Amapiano, a genre of music that mixes deep house, jazz, and lounge music. 


In 2019, Momo released “Abantu Bethu,” a single on which he featured C.A Souls. He also featured DJ Stoks and Luu Nineleven on a song titled “Yelele.”


In July 2020, Kelvin Momo released his debut studio album titled “Momo's Private School.” The album was inspired by the Private School Amapiano, a popular genre of music he is known to be the pioneer of. Thanks to its lush pads and darting keys as well as a typical rough amapiano sound being replaced by a polished shine, Kelvin Momo's debut album was a stone-cold masterpiece and a huge success. The album had hit songs like “Gumbaya,” “Lately,” “Myekeleni,” “Soul to Soul,” “Thoughts of You,” “Kholwa,” and “Kuwe.”


In August 2020, Kelvin Momo released an EP titled “Bayeke.” The Extended Playlist was actually joint released with Babalwa M, a popular female vocalist who also happens to be his girlfriend. As a producer, Kelvin Momo also produced the entirety of Babalwa M's debut studio album titled “Aluta Continua.”


Following the success of his debut studio album, in December 2021, Kelvin Momo released his second studio album titled “Ivy League.” The album is known for its experimentation which placed emphasis on jazz, deep house, and lounge music. It also contains hit songs like “Madlamini,” “Inyembezi,” and “Funa.”


In 2022, Kelvin Momo collaborated with Babalwa M for a second time to release “Linga,” an amapiano hit. 




Kelvin Momo Personal Life

In October 2019, Kelvin Momo started dating Precious DJ, a fellow disk jockey. The couple however split up in early 2020. During their time together, Kelvin Momo and Precious DJ worked on various music projects, one of which is the popular song “Buya.”


After parting ways with Precious DJ, Kelvin Momo started dating Babalwa M. The duo are currently together and have worked on music projects like “Bayeke,” “Aluta Continua,” and “Linga.”
